The 10-step EAA audit checklist for EU e-shops

From first scan to published compliance statement: the practical sequence we recommend for EU-operating businesses.

Every week we talk to e-shop operators who want to "do EAA" but don't know where to start. Here's the sequence that works, based on the actual audit lifecycle Axively is built around.
  1. Run the site scan Axively crawls your site automatically (up to 1000 pages) and works out its scope: how many pages and templates are in play. Scope and severity also drive the price. You review nothing by hand.
  2. Review the findings by severity The scan returns specific violations with their occurrence counts, sorted by severity (critical / serious / moderate / minor). You see at a glance what's most common and what hurts most.
  3. Run the AI check for fix suggestions The next level of the audit: AI generates a concrete code fix (before / after) and a plain-language explanation for each finding, in 22 languages. Priced by severity and page count.
  4. Fix in priority order Start with the critical ones (missing button labels, forms you can't submit by keyboard), then the serious ones (text contrast, form-field labels, focus order). Each finding comes with a fix suggestion.
  5. Add a manual review Some issues an automated test won't catch (whether alt text is meaningful, control logic).
  6. Verify the fixes with a re-scan Your audit includes one free verification re-scan within 30 days; you get a direct before and after comparison.
  7. Generate and publish the statement Axively prepares the accessibility statement in the format for your country and language; you add the contact details, check the content and publish it at a public URL (conventionally /accessibility-statement or a footer link).
  8. Build the audit into your workflow After every major site change (redesign, new template, new checkout) run a fresh audit; new templates mean new risks.
  9. Train your content authors Image alt text, link labels and heading structure are created while writing, not during the audit.
  10. Track your legal landscape Penalties and enforcement authorities differ by country; Axively gives you the overview for the markets you operate in with every audit.
With ready-made fix suggestions, teams resolve most serious findings within days; the pace depends on your site size and development capacity. Those who start before regulatory pressure handle it more cheaply and calmly.
